Official Merit Badge Requirments: Coin Collecting Merit Badge

YN/Scout Merit Badge Activity - Two tables will be set aside at the 2014 coin show for a Young Numismatists (YN’s) display and info. The goal of the YN table and display is to encourage and inform kids about coin collecting and answer any questions they have. There will be a video display showing how coins are made. The gentleman working the table/display received his Eagle Scout award in 1982. He is at the show to assist scouts in working on their coin collecting badge. This is the same (Coin Collecting) merit badge counselor who assisted a number of Boy Scouts in completing their merit badge at the last two shows.

Workshops for the Scouts to work on the Coin Collecting merit badge are Saturday (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.) and Sunday (10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. and 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.). Scouts may start the merit badge work in one session and finish it in a follow- up session. Scouts will need to attend one of the sessions to complete the merit badge. Please bring a ‘Blue card’, 5 state quarters (requirement #7) and a penny collection: birth year to 2013 (Requirement #9 Option “D”). If a scout is missing part of the birth year to 2012 set, there will be a penny search available at the YN table and they may go through on their own time to complete that requirement.

See 2012 coin show photos (including YN area).
